Teeth Whitening Strips, Gels & Toothpaste - Which is Better?

Teeth Whitening Strips: Since the option emerged that allowed people to bring back the shine to their teeth that had been gradually disappearing for decades, the question for many people has changed. It is not whether to have their teeth whitened but rather which method should they use, teeth whitening strips or teeth whitening gels.

And there are a few.

You can either attend a qualified dentist to have your teeth whitened using laser technology or being bleached professionally.
Either of these procedures are one offs and long term. The only problem is that they can be on the expensive side. Considerably less expensive but much longer term is through brushing your teeth every day with whitening toothpaste or by using a mouthpiece tray which applies bleach in small doses.

If you want to take a middle line, then the best option for you may be that of teeth whitening strips and gels that attack the plaque that have formed on the teeth over a long period of time. Generally small and flexible, these teeth whitening strips are coated on one side with whitening bleach. By applying the strips to the upper and lower teeth, for around half an hour at a time twice a day, the bleach will gradually burn off the plaque and the long term discoloration and return the original white color to your teeth.

Whilst it is extremely tempting to become carried away by the early results of teeth whitening strips and want to take some short cuts, its is highly important not to wear these strips in your teeth for any more that 30 minutes at a time. If you do so, you run the risk of doing permanent damage to your teeth, through burning off the enamel.

Applying a teeth whitening gel is another middle of the road method of bringing a gleam back into your smile.

By applying the teeth whitening gel, you are exposing your teeth to a considerably more powerful whitening agent than you will find in most of the whitening toothpastes on the market.

Teeth whitening gels contain a peroxide based formula which will speed up the teeth whitening process considerably.

As with tooth whitening strips, patience is a virtue and manufacturers instructions must be seriously adhered to prevent damage.
Teeth whitening strips and gels are conservative alternatives to either top end or bottom end teeth whitening treatments. For that reason, they seem to be the most popular, although they are not very long lasting and because some sensitivity at the least and some major damage at the worst, if not applied properly.

For those who have just undergone a whitening procedure using teeth whitening strips or gels, it may be worth your while to buy a tube of toothpaste containing potassium nitrate. This ingredient will provide comfort through soothing the nerve endings in the root of the tooth.

Your dentist can either prescribe or recommend a specially designed toothbrush that softens the brush when run under hot water. This may reduce the levels of friction between the brush and the teeth and gums.

Products containing fluoride can also considerably reduce the heightened sensitivity through constantly allowing your teeth to regain minerals removed during the whitening procedure. So whether you choose teeth whitening strips, gels or a toothpaste the fact is you have taken the right decision to bring back a gleaming smile to your face.
